Membership of the Theosophical Society

Application for membership in the Theosophical Society is open to those who are in sympathy with the Three Objects of the Society. The Theosophical Society does not actively promote membership, but does welcome as members all who are in sympathy with its Three Objects.

We are a Society which endeavours to establish on the planet a reflection of the inner spiritual world. This embodies the ideals of the oneness of life and respect for all living beings, in an atmosphere of open minded enquiry into ourselves and our place in nature. We welcome any who wish to join us in this endeavour.

We encourage anyone who is interested in membership to join a Branch of the Society if there is one nearby. Check out the list of them from the main menu on the left. Otherwise it is possible to become a member attached to the National Body.

If you choose to join the TS you will not be asked to accept any particular teachings or to surrender any of your existing beliefs. This is in keeping with the Society's policy on Freedom of Thought.

Membership Includes

  • participation in an international organisation with members in some 60 countries of the world and local groups (Branches and Study Centres) in over 20 locations in the New Zealand,
  • subscription to TheoSophia, a quarterly magazine,
  • use of the National Section Library in person or by mail,
  • an introductory series of letters covering basic Theosophical concepts,
  • discounts on lectures, workshops, retreats, seminars and other programs at the National Section,
  • participation in electronic or postal study and discussion groups, and
  • invitations to special events for members only.

Membership is of two types

  1. Local group membership in a Branch or Study centre, or
  2. National (Headquarters) membership, unattached to a local group.

Membership dues vary somewhat from place to place, and there may be a reduction for unwaged members. For further information, including how to join a Branch or Study Centre, contact Membership Services via e-mail to the  Membership Secretary or phone 09 523 1797.

An Application Form for membership in the Theosophical Society can be printed out here. Then take it to the nearest branch of the Society (see Branches page). They will be happy to process it for you. (They may suggest you attend one or two meetings first if you haven't yet done so.)

Otherwise, if you live too far from a Branch, mail the form with a payment of $30.00 ($20.00 unwaged) for a National membership application, to:-
